SKYLINES COMPETITION. AND THE WINNERS ARE…

Congratulations to the following five prize winners in our 2018 Skylines Sewing Competition.

First Place goes to Olivia with her fabulously full-skirted dress. We thought this elegant design was a brilliant fabric/style match. It’s a little bit Dolce & Gabbana, a little bit retro and all casual glamour. We love the simple but clever details. In particular, the addition of the panel at the bottom of the back of the skirt which provides a lovely play on the checks. Likewise the wrap style bodice with the lines diagonally merging into that centre back seam. And the whole look is finished to perfection with the tie belt and matching headscarf. Congratulations Olivia!

Second Place goes to Renay with her beautiful jumpsuit. Renay describes it as “a self drafted/draped bow top & Pattern Fantastique Terra pant mashup.” She used organza to give the bow more body and bounce and we particularly love the diagonal welt pockets on the back. And check out how beautifully she’s matched up those side seams!

Third Place goes to Jennifer with her very on-trend, two piece, 80s-channelling spectacular. The fully lined jacket was made using a Donna Karan Vogue pattern that Jennifer said she first sewed up about thirty years ago! The skirt is an original design and comprises of a faced yoke with an invisible zip and a fully pleated panel on the bottom.

So we were only going to offer three prizes but electing our finalists proved to be so hard that we ended up awarding two further prizes for Fourth and Fifth Place. In Fourth place, we have Clare with this frilled beauty made using a 1970 vintage McCalls pattern. Despite the pattern being dated at nearly half a century old, the design is fantastically contemporary and perfect for this fabric. We particularly love how she cut all the ruffles on the bias.

Fifth Place went to Amanda with this Celestial Dress modification. We adore the bias cut yoke, those full sleeves and the lengthened cuffs that make such a graphic statement.

Congratulations to all our winners and especially big love and thanks to every one who joined the fun of our Skylines Competition. It’s always a magical thing to watch the creativity and talent amongst all you sewists out there and when you scroll through the entries on our Pinterest board, I hope you’re as blown away as we are by the creativity and diversity that can happen with the same piece of fabric. It never EVER ceases to amaze us. Enjoy your makes and we look forward to the next competition already!
