Farewell Laura

It’s funny who you run into while you’re filling up for petrol. We bumped into Laura and her boyfriend James who were off to a party. Laura has just finished working for us at Tessuti Chatswood – to start an exciting new job working for a leather manufacturer Julio Valdes – assisting him in design and pattern making. Laura had spent sometime doing work experience with Julio in her final year at the University of Technology Sydney where she studied fashion and textile design. She did so well too – becoming one of 3 finalists to go to Paris last year in the Lancome Colour Design Awards and her graduating range in the end of year UTS parade was a real standout. We know that Laura is destined for great things and we wish her all the very best in the future. And yes Laura….this definitely isn’t goodbye.

I have to mention too – of course – that here Laura is wearing a gathered skirt she made in Tessuti‘s 100% silk crepe de chine *’ Big Beige Check ‘. This skirt is very easy to make …no pattern required. Just cut 2 rectangles of fabric ( front and back )- the width of the fabric ( this silk is 112cm wide – finished width at hem should be approx twice the width of your hips ) add an invisible zipper and gather the waist to fit onto your waistband. Tres Facile!

PS not forgetting that clever James ( who is an artist and sculptor ) made his cool vest from leather he salvaged from an old sofa.

* this silk also comes in a blue/red/ black colourway.
