Esmod – Patternmaking and Sewing Evening Courses

INTRODUCTION TO PATTERNMAKING & SEWING SKILLS (8 week program, Wednesdays 6 – 9pm)

Next Course Commencement: 5th August 2009

This course is taught by a French patternmaking specialist and is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of patternmaking and garment assembly in a focused and hands-on learning environment. Students will apply a range of techniques such as block development, dart manipulation, familiarisation with a variety of silhouette alterations and patternmaking terminology and symbols. Aspects of construction such as cutting, laying, fusing, yokes, pockets, waistbands, fastenings, inverted pleats and basic collars will be explored and applied to sample garments. Students will use domestic Bernina/Bernette sewing machines and Juki industrial machines to test their patterns and apply professional finishes to their garments. Industry suppliers of textiles & trims will be indentified and students will complete garment research files on different styles.

PIECES A MANCHE (Intermediate patternmaking and sewing skills – 8 week program, Wednesdays 6 – 9pm)

Next Course Commencement: 27th May 2009

This program extends students basic skills in patternmaking and sewing to sleeved and lined garments. A French patternmaking specialist will lead you through a series of skilled methods used to create and make shirts, bodices and dresses.
