Pattern Review – McCalls 5578
September 12, 2010
Last weekend I made this dress for Gabby from McCalls 5578 in this pretty mini floral 100% Cotton Tana Lawn Liberty print – Eloise Sand. View A was cut as I was worried about the longer all-in-one sleeves bunching up under the arms and left off the sleeve cuffs, instead trimming the sleeve edges with a grey cotton torchon lace. Gabby’s dress sits shorter, minus the contrast hem band and we decided to leave out the side pockets.
As you can see, she loves it! Think I’ll definitely use this pattern again, it’s super easy and quick to make and will be a great block for some other variations.
Oh!….. and look who’s excited about her very first Dr Martens. Only wish I’d kept my old ones!!
Stunning Colette, although Gabby is gorgeous and I'm sure that anything she puts on will look stunning. Love the fabric and the Tana Lawn will be very light and cool for summer.
Cute dress! Gabby will be lovin' that Liberty in the heat of summer.
I still have my cherry red docs, and I did wear them only a week or so ago…but I must admit, they don't make it out of the cupboard very often these days.
Hmmm. Looks great and has given me an idea of what to make out of some fabric I bought in Japan a couple of years ago.
My fave look, dresses with boots, although I'd have to wear tights and flatties cos my legs wouldn't look anywhere near as good as Gabby's….Terese
It's such a cute dress, I love it!
I've managed to get hold of this pattern and have some cute cotton for it but was wondering – do you need the buttons on the back? It looks like you'd be able to slip it over your head? Would that be right?
Thanks,
Sam
Hi Sam,
No you could cut the centre back on the fold, to leave out the buttons, because you can slip it over the head. But the buttons are a lovely detail on the back. Enjoy sewing this up.
