Sweet 16

We celebrated a very special birthday today on 12.12.12, Gabby turned sweet 16!  My gift to her was this scrap quilt (a combination of 1930’s reproduction and current printed cottons) I started for her some years ago. I’m embarrassed to say how long ago I started this, but let’s just say Gabby had given up all hope that I was ever going to finish it and was both surprised and thrilled to receive it this morning!!!  I hope she’ll treasure for many many years to come.

For her special day Gabby wore this dress she last made at her sewing classes with Bernadette. This incredibly beautiful deep red printed vintage cotton chintz was a 4 metre remnant length we picked up at a local garage sale of a former fabric lover, who was moving into a nursing home!

The dress pattern used was New Look 6824 , bodice view B was cut together with skirt view H, but instead of pleating the skirt as per pattern it was gathered onto the bodice. Due to the fabric being narrow (only 90cm wide) the skirt is narrower than the pattern, but it still works in this coated cotton.

Happy birthday gorgeous Gabby, hope your day was extra special xxx
