Frilly edges on straps
May 10, 2008
This image shows another place to add a frill – on the outer edge of shoulder straps. It helps to hide any bra straps that may show and also give a plain strap a lovely finish.
You can use a frilly trim like to lovely ones I posted about yesterday or you can make them out of fabric. Here I have made the frill out of Tessuti’s ‘Bird Lover’ 100% cotton voile – which is also on the lower part of my top.
This frill is folded in half and gathered and inserted in between the two strap pieces – which are fused with a light weight interfacing.
Oh! I love the fabric and the ruffles! What is the pattern you used for the top?
And might Tessuti please, please think of selling at least some of its stock online? Even just trims and notions? You show off the most beautiful stuff, which just isn’t available in Perth. We’re still very behind with the fashion fabric thing.
Hi Lupinbunny,
thanks for your lovely comments! The pattern is one of my own. It is a simple top with straps and band across the top ( cut on the straight grain ) and the bottom half ( cut on the bias ) It’s a pattern I took off a top I had. It’s a favourite and I have made it up a few times.
I am thinking of having my own patterns on our website that you can download. Good basics …nothing too complicated. Maybe I should start with this pattern and see how it goes.
Plus we are working on an on-line Tessuti store at the moment. Stay tuned for that. Till that is up and running …. remember anything you need is only a phone call or email away
Hi Colette, I love the top. I’m really excited about your online patterns and shop!
