Refashioned 80’s style leather jacket
May 28, 2008
Kara, our newest Tessuti staff member, has made the funkiest leather skirt out of a leather jacket ( circa ‘Thriller’- Michael Jackson period !!!!) that she picked up at St. Vinnies for $5 !!!
Kara simply turned the jacket upside down, using the bottom band of the jacketas the waistband of the skirt (it has a belt that can draw in the waist). She cut just before the very broad shoulders to create the hem of the skirt.
Et voila! A very cool skirt that wouldn’t look out of place at fab stores like Pretty Dog in Newtown or Incu in Paddington.
that is such a great idea! I love that it’s recycled, but I really love how it doesn’t look it at first glance!
Fantastic idea! I really like that!
Very very clever. Love the rock star vibe. Way to go, Kara!
Awesome skirt. I could never cut that jacket up, even if it only cost $5.00.
Hey Colette , I’m coming in next week for some fabric for a coat. Brrrr it’s starty to get nippy. Which store has the best selection?
This is a really cool skirt. Weirdly I was thinking to sew a faux leather similar skirt the other day.
Mary J – probably the best place to go to see the largest range of coatings is at our Surry Hills store.
I hope I get to see you there.
You are right about it being hard to cut up gorgeous leather. But the size of the shoulders on this jacket made it totally unwearable!!! It does suit Kara’s style in this skirt.
What a fabulous idea! Very 80s, I love it!
this is ugly and terrible, that leather jackets was greatest leather jackets girls ever can wear. such a waste of great piece of wardrobe. 🙁
What a nifty leather skirt!
Its awesome!
nice post love reading it.
