Thread Den – Melbourne
May 11, 2008
For those that live in Victoria ( did you know that we are opening a fabric shop in Melbourne soon ?)…. have you heard about Thread Den in North Melbourne?
They run various sewing classes and they have a sewing lounge!!! This image is from their website.
Thread Den is equipped with Janome sewing machines and overlockers for in-store hire, as well as large cutting tables for you to spread out while at work on your projects. Hourly sewing machine hire includes complimentary staff assistance…. now that’s a fabulous idea !!!
I would love to hear from anyone about sewing classes available around Australia. Also let me know what you think sewing classes should cover?
I recently did a basic class at Thread Den and it was fantastic!
The class I want is a measuring / fitting class…I need help just to take my measurements…I have read many definitions on measuring the hip area, but I’m still not sure I have the right spot (I have saddlebags). If I can’t get this basic right, then how can I possibly do things like a chest and back measurement…where does that start and end? Then I would love to make some basic slopers for myself, either by drafting or draping, with some expert advice to correct all the wrinkles.
I go to Anne at Designer Stitch in East Bentleigh Victoria. http://www.designerstitch.com/
Classes are fun and you learn a lot. She has heaps of patterns to select from, she assistas with fabric selection, making the items and fitting to your body shape. She also does bag making and pattern making. Her website is very informative too. She has a waiting list for her classes for a reason!
Thread Den is fantastic. I was recently in Melbourne and popped in for inspiration. I love that they stock limited edition designers too (including some of mine!) I have a sewing school in Perth, which has been going for several years. I am currently adding new classes, covering all aspects of hobbyist fashion production and will have several timeslots for drop-in sewing. I specialise in getting a wonderful fit, and am developing a workshop to take arounf dcountry WA. My website is at http://www.aeracura.net.au.
