Start them sewing early!
Here’s my daughter Gabby and a couple of friends spending a few hours during the school holidays with Bernadette Doherty.
Bernadette was kind enough to run a three and a half hour class for the girls – just enough time to give them a taste and to learn how to sew up a top. Bernadette got them to try out McCalls 5050 pattern – view A without the elastic under the bodice and the girls chose to leave out the elastic around the sleeve hem. With a few simple instructions and explanations from Bernadette, the girls got right into it…
….and a couple of enjoyable hours later – voila! Three lovely girls in three lovely tops.
The girls had a wonderful day with Bernadette and really enjoyed working in her great studio. Best of all was how impressed they all were with their first efforts in top making. I know Gabby has worn her top quite a few times since 🙂
What fun. They all look fantastic!
What a fun way to spend school holidays! That looks like a great first pattern to learn on too. All the girls look fantastic in their tops. Well done to all the girls!
I can wait for my class with Bernadette to start in Feb, it's going to be sooooo much fun!
They look great. Well done girls. Wouldn't mind one myself!!!
Great age to start. I did my first sewing class when I was 13, and haven't stopped since! The tops look fab. You should be very proud girls. Ex
Bravo! Love it!
