Pattern review – Burda magazine 5-2008-111
Here’s a great super easy empire waistline dress worn by Alex in Tessutis 100% Cotton Voile Mustard Tim Tam from a couple of summers ago. The pattern is #111 in Burda Magazine 05/2008 minus the puffy sleeves (sorry folks…I forgot to take pictures without the cardigan)
Instead of cutting out the front neck and back facing in the self fabric as suggested in the magazine, Alex bound the neckline and armholes with a contrasting cotton bias binding in garnet. Also used for the double drawstring ties and on the tops of the pocket band….and what cute pockets.
As the sweetheart neckline in this pattern is quite low and wide there were some gapping issues – narrow elastic was added to the bottom of the neckline to draw it in…. clever girl!
I also quite like the white embroidered cotton batiste version (shown in the magazine) so fresh and pretty. If you’re lucky to have this back issue ( or can get your hands on one) – do give it a try….I’m sure it’ll become a favourite for summer.
I love these pattern reviews Collette – they really show your fabrics off to their fullest potential. This one is just stunning.
Thanks Cherri….I enjoy reading your comments too.
Very cute – I love the fabric. It really suits to pattern 🙂
Oh I love the pockets! And the fabric choice is just to die for! Gorgeous outcome and great idea to fix the gaping at the bust. Fabulous work!
Great idea with the elastic – perfect dress – also love the binding – hey! I think I have this issue!
I found this pattern on a website – Burda 7695 still in print if anyone is interested.
Thank you Samantha…yes we are interested to know that! It's a great dress pattern
