NEW :: THE OSLO COAT PATTERN
Just in time for winter, meet our new pattern – the Oslo Coat! This stylish and timeless coat is fully lined and features a slim double breast, shawl collar, full length raglan sleeves and side pockets. Oslo is a classic straight fit and sits on or just above the knee.
So how did this pattern come to be? After creating our very popular Brooklyn Coat, we heard the frequent call for a winter design that was more tailored. And lined! This pattern is very much geared towards the intermediate to advanced sewist and we’re really proud of the instructions, so if you’re up for a very achievable challenge – this is the pattern for you! We also really wanted to create a style that is elegant and classic.
This dreamy black wool version is made up in our Doppio Crepe Nero and also comes in a variety of colours.
The blue sample (above) is made up in our Big Sky Check (also available in Ocean and Forest colourways) and this delicious herringbone version (below) is made up in Italian Zebra. You can check out more of our coating range here.
When choosing a lining for your Oslo Coat, we definitely recommend you go for something more hard-wearing and coat-worthy like a viscose or acetate blend.
The pattern comes in (Australian) sizes 6 through to 22 and is available in both hardcopy copy and actual size copy shop/print-at-home version. Oslo is sold in three size ranges – Size 6-8-10 and Size 12-14-16 and 18-20-22 – so please take care to select the right size when purchasing your pattern!
Hope you like the Oslo. And if you sew her up, don’t forget to tag #oslocoat and share your version. Happy sewing friends!
Hi! Love the new coat. Will there be a sample to try on in any of your stores? It looks oversize – is that correct?
Thanks!
What a great line! Looks like you could use a few fabric ‘weights’ – especially with lining.
Love it! But what about us bigger girls? 🙁 We like to wear nice hand made clothing too. 18+ size would be great.
Couldn’t agree more, Kathryn. This style would look so good on we curvaceous women, too.
Interesting comment. I’m planning to make this coat & would love some clarification on use of “weights” to improve my make. Ever learning!
Yes, I am with Kathryn. Can’t see why your lovely patterns are not available in larger sizes.
Im in UK and would love a hard copy.. is that possible?
Hi Jeannette. Please send us an email with your address and we’ll get back to you with postage cost for airmail – fabrics@tessuti.com.au
I am a medium in your other patterns and would like to have both size 10 and size 12 to work with. Does this mean I have to buy both patterns? Would it be possible to get a size 10 and 12 combo?
Hi Elizabeth. Sizes 10 and 12 are not available together. If you are a medium in our other patterns, we would suggest size 12.
Is there a rating system for your patterns? I’ve done a lot of sewing but have never tackled a tailored(ish?) jacket. Any advice?
Hi Jenny. We don’t have a rating system as such but we do list sewing level/ability on the product page. If it helps, this was my first ever ‘tailored(ish)’ and lined coat too. I hope you give it a go!
I want to buy this in size 22.
Can you make that available?
Thanks
We are working on offering more of our Tessuti patterns in a plus size range. The Oslo Coat hasn’t been regraded as yet. We’ll work on it at some stage, as soon as we can fit it in. best regards Colette
Hi! Love the coat (and the name)! Wondering about making one in teddy fabric. Do you think that this fabric will work with this pattern or will it be to stiff/thick?
Thanks from Oslo/Norway 🙂
I found the size range but do you have the finished garment measurements listed. I am right on the edge of the size range and wanted to know how much ease I have to work with. Thanks
I am struggling with this coat after I add the sleeves and then getting the collar on . It would be really helpful if you had a blog for this. Apart from the pattern instructions is there any more tips I could get ?
Hi!
I’m with Mariana. I’m just making my muslin currently but am stuck on how to set in the sleeves. Would love a post about this or a video. Thanks!
Gorgeous coat, just a shame the size range is so pitiful or I’d buy it in an instant
Hi Francesca. Our Oslo is on the list for size expansion.
Which kind of interfacing should be used with the Oslo coat? The pattern only mentions “interfacing”. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Hi Gabi. It would need to be something suitable for the weight of your coating – nothing heavy or too structured. We prefer a soft midweight like our BVM60
Dear friends at Tessuti – I know this is a lined coat pattern but am wondering how it would work unlined in a boiled wool fabric & would really appreciate your thoughts.
Many thanks
Anne
Hi Anne. We have seen it made in a boiled wool before, although not unlined. Fabric rules can certainly be broken now and then, so if you want to try it, give it a go – we just can’t categorically say that it will work as you imagine it might. It’s also worth bearing in mind that boiled wool can sometimes lack structure and both the interfacing and lining in the pattern help to provide this.
Hi, bought this pattern from you, in a Swedish webshop.
I love the coat but the pattern is in my book not the best it could be. You have used an almost black fabric in the photos which makes it hard, very hard, to see. I have bought at least 50 patterns in my life and this was by far the only one hard to understand, because of your choice of fabric colour.
Can you pls confirm if they are all like this?
I love your designs but will not spend money on black patterns again, sorry. The text is good, even if English is not my language, im happy with that, but pls make new pictures.
Thank you for leaving a comment on our blog post. We apologise that the images in your booklet are too dark. We used the sample we made for the coat shown on the cover for the instructions, probably not the smartest choice, but the written sewing instructions are very clear. The only part of the instructions that we updated were Steps 23 and 24, as we received feedback that these steps were unclear. Here’s the blog post – https://blog.tessuti.com.au/2017/08/tutorial-catching-oslo-coat-lininghems-together/
We do have plans on updating the photos in the Oslo Coat booklet, using a lighter coating and contrasting lining at some point, just finding the right time amongst other work commitments is sometimes difficult. But it definitely needs to be done, as it’s still one of our best selling coat patterns since we released it in May 2017 – https://blog.tessuti.com.au/2017/05/new-oslo-coat-pattern/
We have emailed the PDF of instruction booklet to you, where you will be able to see the images much lighter/brighter on a computer/iPad/IPhone. Plus you can zoom in and brighten your screen.
In answer to your question, we’ve learnt a lot since we released our Oslo Coat pattern, and yes our instruction booklets are much brighter and lighter. If you need to see an example of any let me know and I can send you some screenshots.
