Pattern Review – McCalls 4591

Can you make out the little face in the ultrasound photo of Emma’s little bub?….so incredible, isn’t it?

This is the beginning of progress posts on Emma’s pregnancy and some pattern reviews thrown in as well. Here is the glowing mum to be, back in September when she was just starting to show a little bump at 5 months in a dress she made in Tessuti’s 100% viscose georgette ‘Indigo Floral’.

To create this wonderful dress , Emma used an old favourite blouse pattern – McCalls 4591, adding a gathered skirt (using the full width of this 140cm wide fabric and cutting twice the desired length) which was added to the shortened blouse – the seam sits at high-hip level and changing the sleeve edge to a narrow casing for elastic instead of a cuff. The tie-front extensions in this pattern are a lovely detail and work particularly well in this dress – particularly when they’re not arranged into a bow – like the pattern stylists suggest! The lace you see around the neckline is from the camisole worn underneath.
