Pattern Review – Vogue 8815
September 28, 2012
Here’s a peplum top I made up for my daughter in our Italian digital printed ponti knit Blue Mazzetto. Claudia chose both the style, inspired by these images found on the net and the fabric, from our latest arrivals of printed ponti’s. The top pattern is super easy Vogue 8815.
After making a calico out of a black ponti knit I had, I made minor alterations such as adding a neck facing, shortening the sleeves, taking out some excess fabric out of the back and taking it in slightly at the shoulders. More importantly the peplum wasn’t as full as the pattern envelope illustrates, so I added some more fullness.
Claudia’s requested a couple more in plain ponti and happily modelled her new top for me today, so I take it as a thumbs up!
PS. I forgot to mention that I eliminated the back shoulder dart by pivoting it out on the pattern.
Beautiful top! This pattern seems to be the flavour of the month. I am currently finishing the handstitching on mine in the Blueberry Ponti. How did you hem it?
Hi Sew Brunswick, yes this pattern and style is all the rage now.
I added fusible tape around the curved hem and blind hemmed the peplum and sleeve hem. The hem width I used was 1/2" instead of the wider hem the pattern suggested.
Can't wait to see yours!

So beautiful! I love it! That ponti is gorgeous!! And perfect for that pattern.
Thanks Sallie!
Claudia looks so beautiful in this style – great fabric and stunning model.
Thanks Evelyn, it's been a while since Claudia modelled for me, she happily did for this top.
My question is- how did you take it in at the shoulders? Shoulders are a scary area for me at the moment!
p.s it looks fab, I love peplums!
To make this pattern fit my daughter, I cut 1/4" off the shoulders on front and back shoulder line, all the way from neck to armhole and brought the armhole in 1/4" starting from the shoulder seam and blending it back to approx the armhole notch marks. So I had to ring the sleeve head down a 1/4" blending it back to the notches and also 1/8" on either side of the sleeve seam. There was enough ease in the sleeve in this ponti knit.
Hop this makes sense Johanna!

Colette
Thanks for the reply 🙂
Your daughter looks lovely in this. The peplum is definitely the "it" style at the moment. (Have been trying to get my hands on this pattern as well….)
Thanks Marina. Yes definitely 'peplum fever' around at the moment 🙂
Gorgeous top, fabric and model! Can't believe how grown up Claudia is, I thought it was Gabby at first glance.
LOVING this fabric too, my colours indeed. Is it a heavy weight ponti or a bit lighter and thus suited to steamy SG weather?? I think I may need some…

Hi Emma, yes she's all grown up. You're not the only one to think it was G at first glance!!!
The colours are very much YOU it's a mid weight ponti and I think a summer sleeveless may work in Singa's??? Or perhaps a skirt?

Fab! Have you got it at Chats? Will get Mum to pop in..
Yes all stores have this one! x
Mum popped in and bought some for me, yay! It won't be here for a few weeks though. In the meantime I'm thinking what I can do with it. What do you think of a Galaxy Dress in it??
Hi Emma,
A Galaxy dress would look stunning and you'd get lots of stretch so you don't have to walk like a Geisha!
