Winter Eva Tunic Dress in Nero Kurepu
April 26, 2014
With the latest arrival of some pretty gorgeous Japanese wool crepe – Nero Kurepu (also available in Cherry Red) – I was keen to whip myself up a lovely crepe Eva Dress for winter.
Because I wanted to wear this with fitted jersey tops on cooler days, I modified the original sleeveless bodice pattern for this tunic version. I lowered and brought in the armhole by 3cm and raised the neckline at the front by 5cm, as well as bringing the neckline edge in 1cm to sit closer to the neck. For the back bodice, I did the same to the armhole as the front, but lowered the neckline and brought it in at the neck edge by 1cm (click on images below for a closer look). The skirt panels are as per the original pattern.
The contrast neck and armhole bindings are made from our Japanese 100% cotton Indigo Shibori. For added detail I topstitched the bodice, skirt panel seam and hem edges in contrasting grey thread using the triple topstitch on my machine.
Underneath I’m wearing a modified Alexa T Top that has a wider neckline. The fabric is viscose/elastane Black Line Cruise and as the temperature drops, so will my sleeve lengths.
Don’t be surprised if you regularly see me in store wearing this outfit. I have a feeling I’ll be wearing this A LOT!
I've been thinking about doing this – but you beat me to it! The modifications with the topstitch and binding really make it – love it!
Looks great, thanks for the pattern modification details. Love the binding!
So clever! That is going to be one snuggly and stylish dress for winter! Thanks for my latest bundle of lovely fabrics…it must have been destiny that I was browsing your shop when the last of that lovely cracked glass silk showed up in the remnants. I have a bigger project in mind for it now ;-).
Not much in the way of bricks and mortar fabric shops in the mid-west so I love that when a Tessuti package arrives on my doorstep, without fail, the contents always delight me.
That's destiny. It was online for a second and you snapped it up right away!!! Must have been calling out to you 🙂 Loved your cullottes x
Great dress, great outfit! Thanks for the details too.
The topstitching has a great effect on the seam lines. Looks like a great winter staple.
Thanks Katherine, it's going to be a real favourite!
Love your dress. Looks great with the striped top underneath. Very nice.
This looks great. I have made this pattern in many different fabrics, and this has inspired me yet again to create a lovely autumn/winter outfit.
Could this tunic be made in ponte fabric?
We don’t recommend our Eva Dress pattern for stretch ponte knit
Would a baby needlecord work with your “pinafore hack”?
Absolutely would work!
