NEW :: Iris Dress Pattern
February 1, 2017
Say hello to our first pattern of 2017 – the Iris Dress! This flattering style incorporates an a-line
shaped lantern skirt with side pockets that feature an upper topstitching detail.
shaped lantern skirt with side pockets that feature an upper topstitching detail.
The pattern includes options for both v-neck, sleeveless (Version A – above) and sleeved with round-neck (Version B – below), but you can easily transfer the round neckline to the sleeveless bodice or vice versa.
We’ve also added this exposed binding between the skirt panels to give the design a little extra oomph!
With no closures, the Iris Dress is supremely comfortable and slips on easily over the head. It also looks super stylish when sewn up in two tones, like this one below…

Hi I love the Iris dress have made it twice but realise that I need the bodice a little bigger!! I have therefore re ordered so I can cut out again. Can I then go down to the next size down in the skirt part or best to cut out in one size???
Hi Pip,
Yes you can make the bodice a size bigger and the skirt part a size smaller, provided the top of the skirt part where it connects to the bodice is the same size as the bodice then you can grade it down at the hips to hem.

Colette
It seems this pattern can only be cut on 140 cm fabric as you do not provide yardage for 112 cm.
I had the same problem as Pip above – if you have any sort of bustline you might need to make this pattern a size larger than usual. I think it is a pity they didn’t inlcude breast darts in the pattern.
Hi. I made the sleeveless dress. The neck collar didn’t fit properly and I had to add 2 inches. It was sewn exactly as directed. Shouldn’t the neck collar be cut on the bias.? Everything I have read suggested a V neck collar should be on the bias. The collar as made didn’t sit well either. Will have to remove and try a bias collar.
Hi Jane B,
Apologies for the late reply. You need to check that your cut fabric ais cut as per the pattern pieces and also check that the correct seam allowance was taken during the construction. The v-neck band is cut on the straight, as opposed to the neck band on Version B (round neck) that is cut on the bias.
This dress and v-neck version has been made many times by our students in our classes, with no issues. I would suggest trying this again in a trial/muslin/toile to double check that you have followed each step by step correctly.
I bought your Iris pattern and just realised I have not instructions only the patterns
Hi Gail. I have re-sent your original order so you can download the instructions file. Happy sewing!
