Pattern Review – New Look 6557
Isn’t this fabric fun? The cotton print is rather aptly named ‘Giraffe’, and I just love it!
A couple of weeks ago when the Sydney temperatures reached into the mid 30s, Raewin breezed into our Tessuti Surry Hills store looking fabulous in this sundress. It caused quite a stir, so much so that even one of the husbands, waiting patiently on the lounge for his wife (most of us are familiar with this scene!), commented on how wonderful her dress looked.
The pattern used is New Look 6557-view E. There are various neckline options for different bust shapes. Raewin made an adjustment to the fit at the bust by pinching out a little on the pattern piece (to eliminate gaping) and lightly interfaced the midriff panels for more support. Her painstaking effort to match the print at the center back – well worth the effort – creates a really dynamic effect.
Just perfect from head to toe and a really striking look….
I love the dress! I need to make note of this pattern for next summer! All your wonderful summer inspirations will be tempting for someone who lives in the US and entering the cold months ahead…
… if it is fun and original. ahhh … as seen the arrival of summer there in the antipodes. Congratulations, the model is great. greetings, Paco
I’ve made a few dresses from this pattern.

It’s beautiful! I love the way she matched the fabric on the back!! Great work and great fabric!
I have been eyeing out this fabric in the Bondi store, as my husband’s little nickname for me is “giraffey”, I thought I would get it and make up a dress too- just to see him laugh! Could be fun!
I have a bit of an obsession with giraffes so i may just have to splurge on some MORE fabric hahaha
The dress looks amazing!
I have a similar pattern here but have been waiting till I found the perfect fabric…looks like the wait is over!
🙂
I am currently making this pattern (view E), and i am stuck on a step. This is the first pattern/garmet i have done by myself (im in a sewing class at school) If you check this enough id love some help or clerification. Email address is Jobie_girl22@yahoo.com
Cool dress.
Hi,
The dress looks very nice on you. This is inspiring!
I am currently trying to work on the B dress which I did half way, but in amongst moving houses I lost the instruction paper…. Is it possible for you to send me a picture of it please?
I am very desperate to finish the dress before my brother’s wedding which is a month away…
Also Ive forgot if it had a zipper at the back?
Kind regards,
Pipi
Hi Pipi. Sorry we can’t help out with this – it was a customer creation from 2008 and we do not personally own a copy of this pattern.
