Eva Dress modified to skirt
December 17, 2015
Happy Friday folks! Here’s a quick post to show you how to make this most excellent and very simple pull-on lantern skirt.
To create the skirt, we used the pattern pieces marked centre panel and lower panel from our Eva Dress pattern. The pattern has been slightly modified by lowering the centre panel piece at the waistline edge by approx 2″ as well as widening the mid-seam panel by a total of 4″. To do this, we added 1″ at the side seams only at the bottom of the centre panel and top edge of the lower panel and blended back to original side seam line.
For a neat finish, scalloped elastic (available soon online) was sewn onto the waistline.
This skirt works really well in poplin cottons, linen and wool crepe. This one’s made up in our Italian cotton/elastane The Collective.
I bought some beautiful black and white seersucker from Tessuti Melbourne on Tuesday and managed to bang out this skirt in time for Christmas Day! I shortened the lower panel by 1.5 in and finished the hem by turning under, i.e. I did not finishing with bias binding as detailed in the Eva dress pattern. I used 2 m of fabric. The stand of the seersucker is perfect for this lantern style. I received many compliments from my family on the day, and the skirt was still comfortable after a huge Christmas lunch. Thanks, Tessuti!
