Our latest pattern – the Florence Coat
Just in time for our southern winter, we’re excited to release our latest pattern – the Florence Coat!
The Florence Coat is a long-line, oversized, unlined coat with an easy, relaxed style. Design features include a collarless neckline with stitched down facing, dropped shoulders, full length sleeves with turn-back cuffs. And of course, all-important patch pockets.
Like our other boiled wool patterns (Berlin, Brooklyn and Sydney), seams are overlapped and edges and hems are left raw making Florence a quick and simple sew. You can also easily shorten or lengthen at the hemline to suit your preferred length. In these images, Colette has lengthened hers by 10cm (she’s 168cm tall).
There are no closures on this coat and the front sits edge-to-edge without overlap. This makes it a perfect lightweight layering piece for the autumn/winter months and, for those chillier days, it wears beautifully with your favourite scarf.
We’ve timed the release of this pattern so you can take advantage of our current range of gorgeous boiled wools. The two pictured here are made up in Foresta and Oliva.
The Florence Coat comes in (Australian) sizes Petite (6-8), Size 1 (10-12), Size 2 (14-16), Size 3 (18-20) and Size 4 (20-22) is now available in both hardcopy and PDF copy shop/print-at-home versions (all sizes are included in the pattern) .

Hi
I’m very keen to try to make this beautiful coat but am a very rusty sewer and therefore a bit nervous. It’s described as being for ‘all levels’ but are there any special techniques or skills involved that might be difficult for a relative novice like me?
Thanks!
Hi Kate. Have you seen our latest blog post? We’ve included a few handy tips on working with boiled wools, including cutting with sharp scissors and using a walking foot. We pride ourselves on having very comprehensive instructions so I totally think this would be a great project for you. If you have any trouble at all during the sewing process, feel free to reach out to us via email!
Hello – I have made this coat and love it, but feel I need small shoulder pads. How would advise I add them, given it is unlined? I’m not keen on just using velcro as they move around …
Many thanks,
Tara
The Florence Coat has a dropped shoulder and was designed to be worn without shoulder pads. If you would like to try adding shoulder pads, try a few different styles to find the correct ones. After placing them correctly, catch them to the open seam allowance at the shoulder seam.
