Introducing the Avalon Pants
Life is very different in 2020. It’s hard not to make some kind of connection between what many of us are now wearing (and sewing) and the strange and challenging times we find ourselves living in.
I really don’t want to talk about this new pattern as being lockdown perfect but it really is. Back in March we received our first delivery of Soft Tag fleeces – a beautiful range of 95% cotton 5% elastane brush fleece knit and, at that point, we starting discussing a couple of pattern possibilities. Their arrival also coincided with both the start of autumn and the first COVID lockdowns that we’d begun to experience here in Australia. A time when warm, comfortable fabrics were obviously on the minds and lists of many, and they sold out before we had a chance to finalise anything. So we chose more colours, re-ordered more stock and got to work on pattern planning for their second arrival.
Discussions centred around the keywords of quick, easy and comfortable – and that’s pretty much the best way to describe our latest pattern – the Avalon Pants.
These pull-on knit pants are a simple, stylish design with no side seams. They’re straight-leg, fitted through the waist and hip, with a wide flat elastic-cased waistband. The hems and waist are finished with twin needle topstitching.
And as much as these are ‘lounge around the house’ pants, they’re still smart enough for out and about as well. The pattern works brilliantly in a firmer ponti knit like our Saxon. Pippa’s wearing hers in Saxon Navy ponti (below) with a Mandy Boat Tee (in Navy Brown Jersey) and Berlin Jacket (in Bollito Prugna).
Gabby’s pair below are made up in Saxon Black, topped with the Amara Vest.
We’ve also made them up in our French Tag cotton loopback fleece (in the colour Vert) and they look so great in a set.
The Avalon Pants pattern is now available in both hardcopy and PDF print-at-home/copy shop versions and includes Australian sizes 6-22.
It looks nice, but I really can’t see the fit in (flattering) black and one other picture that doesn’t look too great in the crotch 🙁
Lovely to see a curvy model, at last. I love your designs and consider your patterns to be very well drafted BUT I feel more confident when I see how the garment looks on a curvy person before making a decision. I notice too that you are extending your sizes – again, at last. How about a more detailed measurements chart?
Hi, I’ve just discovered your (very interesting and nice) patterns.
I love wide pants and am hesitant between the Avalon and the Chiara?
What is the difference or the highlight in between?
Thanks in advance,
Aline
Hi Aline
The Avalon Pants are a pull-on pant with elastic waist designed only for knit fabrics. The Chiara Pants are for woven fabrics and feature a stitched down facing and side invisible zip. Full descriptions can be viewed on each product page.
