Introducing the Torino Vest

In a continuing homage to our enduring love affair with boiled wool, we’re excited to introduce you to our latest sewing pattern – the Torino Vest! A staple that’s as practical as it is cozy, this vest is an excellent addition to your trans-seasonal wardrobe. Much like our Sydney Jacket, the Torino Vest has been designed as a handy layering piece that offers style, comfort and warmth.

We describe Torino as a long, sleeveless layering piece with a subtle A-line and elongated silhouette. It features a cosy shawl collar and extended shoulders. The wide collar leads all the way to the knee-length hem and can be folded back to form a lapel or wrapped and secured with the unique loop and a feature button.

Alex is wearing the Torino Vest above in Bollito Budino and below in Bollito Blu.

Concealed slit pockets have been designed to sit nice and low on the hips so there’s no pocket drag when using them.

One of the things we love about this vest is its ability to effortlessly elevate both casual and dressier outfits. Thanks to the fabrication, there’s also a fabulous element of texture and warmth.

For an easy everyday ensemble, pair the Torino Vest with a basic long-sleeve top or turtleneck and your favourite jeans/pants. Alex is wearing it above with our Laura Pants (expanded sizes 16-22 coming soon) and Colette, below, has paired her Torino (in Bollito Statico) with her favourite Chiara Pants made in Motiv Nero wool crepe. For a more dressier style, Torino also works beautifully with a full length skirt or midi/maxi dress.

Let’s now show you some of Torino’s lovely details. The edgestitched back facing adds a subtle detail, offering both structure and extra warmth.

Wear Torino closed by using this simple loop over the 35mm button.

Probably one of our favourite features is this gorgeous shawl collar.

As with all our boiled wool sewing patterns, seams are overlapped and hems/edges left raw making for a fabulously quick and simple sew.

Suitable fabrics for the Torino Vest include boiled wool and boiled felted wools that do not fray when cut. Whilst not technically made for this pattern, our gorgeous range of Italian 100% virgin boiled wools are totally made for this pattern and their quality and body is everything and all* you need (*plus thread and one button).

The pattern comes in five (Australian) size ranges – 0 (size 6), 1 (sizes 8 – 10), 2 (sizes 12 – 14), 3 (sizes 16 – 18), 4 (sizes 20 – 22) – and is now available in both hardcopy and PDF copy shop/print-at-home versions. UK/EU customers can purchase the Torino Vest from our Tessuti Pattern UK website.

We can’t wait to see your versions and if you’re sharing them with us on Instagram, don’t forget to use the #TessutiPatterns #TorinoVest #SewTessuti hashtags.
