Introducing the Alba Pants Pattern

Hey friends – long time no new pattern! But this one (we hope) was worth the wait.

If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you might have seen Colette wearing her THREE pairs during Me Made May – sewing code for ‘Loves them. A LOT’. As for me, I made one pair and promptly felt the same feels, making a second pair not long after. So without further ado, meet the Alba Pants.

We describe Alba as being stylish and supremely comfortable. Wide, cropped legs feature a subtly curved silhouette and a mid-rise waist is finished with a faced flat front and a relaxed, elasticated back. The single button, fly front closure and back yokes give a neat, fitted hip. The opening edges of the generous curved inset front pockets are topstitched, along with the single rear patch pocket, back yokes, side seams and hems.

The beauty of this design lies in the higher waist and elasticated back. No restrictive waistband means no digging, no pinching and that means pure comfort, all day long.

Two front pockets and one rear pocket offer both feature and function. We like adding a side label for a little extra touch.

The distinctive front pockets have a curved shape and the upper portion is topstitched flat to prevent gaping. This unique detail creates visual interest as well as giving the front an overall clean finish.

Part jeans and part pants, we love this pattern for its endless practicality and definitely mark Alba as being an absolute staple that pairs perfectly with all types of tops including shirts, tees, jumpers and jackets. We’ve designed Alba’s finished length to sit just above the ankle but go ahead and play around with your preference and have them finish wherever you like.

Donna’s much-loved pair is made in our Suki Navy Drill with a cobalt topstitching.

My first pair of Albas (below) are made in our Japanese Ojay Navy Cotton/Linen Drill, which also comes in Camel and Caper.

For pair number two, I went with my number one colour of the moment in this Duca Berry Brushed Cotton. Soft and velvet-y, it also comes in Slate (available Melbourne only).

The style works perfectly all year around. Gabby’s pair (above and below) is made in our Ojay 100% cotton/linen. Her Ecru colourway is currently sold out but for a similar fabric, try our Ecru Suki Drill which also comes in these colours. Tiph’s pair (below) is made in Black and, like Gabby, she’s wearing it with the Romy Top – a perfect pattern pairing!

To give you a little extra guidance throughout the Alba Pants sewing process, we’ve put together a video tutorial for Steps 1-20 of the pattern. This can be found on our YouTube page and covers zip insertion, front pockets and front facing in more complex detail.

Suitable fabrics for the Alba Pants include structured cotton drills, denims, corduroy and cotton/linen blends. The pattern is now available in (Australian) sizes 6-22 and is now available in both hardcopy and PDF copy shop/print-at-home versions.
We can’t wait to see your versions and if you’re sharing them with us on Instagram, don’t forget to use the #TessutiAlba and #TessutiPatterns hashtags.
