Wardrobe By Me: The Boatneck Blouse

Our last Japanese delivery included a new drop of quality Shikku Stripe cotton knits and, can confirm, they are the best. At 275gsm, we describe this fabric as stable and heavyweight. With a minimal 10% stretch, it’s not suitable for fitted styles, which is why I chose it last year for this Myka Top (below) that I’ve worn and worn and worn and worn.
How beautiful are all these colours? Tough choice though it was, for this latest make I went with (top right) Off White/Bluette.

With autumn approaching and a short sleeve stripe top already on high wardrobe rotation, I decided a long sleeve style was missing and therefore needed. And to that I also added: relaxed fit, breton style, slightly oversized, comfortable and practical. In a nutshell, ALL the good things, and the Boatneck Blouse from Wardrobe By Me delivered.
The pattern descriptions states: The Boatneck Blouse embodies the essence of classic French maritime style. This straight-cut T-shirt features long set-in sleeves and a distinctive boat neckline. The silhouette is defined by its balanced proportions, offering a comfortable yet refined fit with just the right amount of relaxed ease.

There are two views, with View B having a slighter shorter 3/4 sleeve length. This was a quick and very straightforward sew and delivered just what I was looking for.

Most of these photos are making the blue stripes look way darker than they actually do, but can confirm they most closely appear as you see in the image below. Not showing off my almost-perfect stripe matching here – just sharing that cheeky side label added to the left hand seam.

The perfect boatneck is finished on the inside with a self-made woven binding. For mine, I just used some cotton shirting from the stash.

This top is going to get plenty of wear. It pairs perfectly with jeans, skirts, pants, tailored pants and shorts, and can easily layer under blazers, trench coats and knits. Did anyone else own one of those iconic Remo Stripeys in the 90s? This gives me those exact same, classic, forever feels.

Fabulous Lisa!! 👏🏼👏🏼⭐️ Yes, classic & so useful. BTW your cheeky label expresses my sentiments about the top … exactly!! 😍 Great sewing, & thanks so much for sharing it with us. 👍🏼👋🏼
Thanks so much Margaret. Glad no offence was taken on the label front, and my sentiments too!
I own about 15 striped boat neck tops. Some RTW, but mostly handmade as I’m always on a quest for the perfect neckline. The neckline and sleeve length on this tick all the boxes, and I have already purchased the red and cream stripe from you with another boat neck top in mind.
If Tessuti could release a perfect pattern for high-waisted cigarette style trousers I would be in heaven.
Fifteen stripey boat neck tees sounds perfect!
