*Almost nothing about Florence Broadhurst was as it seemed; few guessed her age, let alone her origins.

The flamboyant design pioneer was born in outback Australia in 1899 and by her mid-twenties she was a singer and dancer in Shanghai, later running a fashion boutique in London’s Mayfair, reinventing herself as a painter and charity queen in Sydney. But it was with her last incarnation – as a designer of bold, exotic wallpapers – that she shook up conservative Australia and made her mark.

In this spirited and highly original documentary, acclaimed director Gillian Armstrong reveals the many lives of one larger-than-life woman, whose prints are now in huge demand internationally.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with speakers including biographer Helen O’Neill, whose beautiful book Florence Broadhurst: Her Secret & Extraordinary Lives (Hardie Grant Books) was published in 2006, actress Judi Farr (who portrayed Florence Broadhurst in the documentary) and a representative from Signature Prints (custodians of the Florence Broadhurst design library and owners of the exclusive world-wide commercial licence to the library).
