NEW :: THE MILENDA DRESS PATTERN
Meet our latest pattern – the Milenda Dress! This simple, classic pull-on dress features short sleeves and pockets. The stitched-down pleats (on both front and back) release into the skirt for a relaxed, casual and comfortable style.
The pattern comes in this pictured sleeve length but it can be easily altered if you prefer it longer.
We’ve pictured the dress above in our Elderberry and below in our Terracotta Lave linens.
Eva’s green version is made up in the Moringa colour way.
Suitable fabrics for Milenda include linen, crinkle linen, linen blends, viscose, rayon and wool crepe. You can see our full linen range here. The pattern comes in (Australian) sizes XXS through to XL and is now available in both hardcopy copy and actual size copy shop/print-at-home version.
I always need to create bust darts – does this new pattern allow room for that, or do the pleats get in the way. It looks OK, but thought I would check.
Hi Mary Ann, yes you could do a full bust adjustment and add in darts. The pleats will not be in the way.
Generally I enjoy the look of this dress but there are a few design concepts that I look for in a slip on dress that versions of this dress are not manifesting compared to the line drawing. I look for slim and not excessive ease. I like the sleeves to fit on the shoulder edge. I like the hem line to be on the narrow side. I think the line drawings reflect all my preferences but I’m a bit concerned that the dresses featured in the photographs fit on the large side. Not as flattering as I’d like to see them.
I know it is spring in Australia but thinking about Europe and autumn this could be very good and comfortable dress to wear in office under jacket if made in fine wool. Hmm, I will think about it. It is really worth trying.
I feel the same about this dress, are the dress presented oversized or is it a design feature ?
This is the dress pattern I’ve been looking for! I love the easy styling that can be dressed up or down, and depending on fabric choice, could work throughout the seasons here in the UK. Just one question though … would it work with a fairly stable knit or only wovens do you think?
Hi Gillian.
We would recommend the Milenda Dress for wovens only.
Fantastic pattern – Thankyou
Suits my overweight shape and is perfect in linen for these hot summers
Am making another Milenda dress today
What cup size is this based on? I’m a D cup – will I need to do a FBA?
Hi Rachael. The bodice is not fitted so we would recommend making up a toile to check beforehand if an FBA is required
Beautiful! I love the pleats, looks great for Fall!
Hi, I’m looking forward to making this. But I’m already confused on the pattern layout! For the Medium, it shows the fabric laid out selvedge to selvedge, but the pattern piece says cut on the fold. Can you clarify please? Tks
Hi Wendy,
To show most economical meterage option for the size Medium – XL, the meterage layout is shown with fabric width laid open, then it means you need to flip the pattern,as demonstrated. It is still essentially cut on the fold, you need to fold the fabric approximately a third of the way, so that you fold over just enough of your fabric to get the width at the hips. Doing the same on the other selvedge edge, so that you are able to sandwich in front and back pieces together, without having to use more fabric. If showing the most common fold of selvedge to selvedge you will require much more fabric. If you wish to do this you can, but check the meterage required by laying your pattern pieces on fabric the same width and work out new meterage required. Our meterage suggestions on the pattern is cut according to pattern layout shown.
I need to do a full bust adjustment and it’s to wide across the neck. How can I reduce this for a better fit?
Hi Angela,
If the neckline is too wide for you, try bringing in the neckline in at the shoulders or centre front. If your bust is causing gaping at the neckline, you need to pivot it out but this cannot be explained via text. Email us a photo of the Milenda Dress on you to fabrics@tessuti.coom.au and we can guide you.
