Our New Rae Top Pattern

Back in February (which actually feels like somewhere between forever and a lifetime ago) we released our Rae Dress pattern and, at that time, mentioned plans to release a separate top pattern as well. Well finally, it’s here – meet our new Rae Top pattern!

The Rae Top gives three fabulous style options – sleeveless with bound armholes (View A), cap sleeves (View B) or soft, elbow length sleeves with gathered hems (View C).

Our favourite pattern feature is the wide elasticated neckline which makes this an easy, comfortable pull-on top.

You might be wondering how the top differs from the dress. There’s the three sleeve options of course, which can also be used with the dress. View C sleeve also has more fullness, and the bodice is slightly wider and there’s no centre back seam allowance an

Recommended fabrics for the Rae Top include linen, cotton poplin, light-weight wool, light-weight denim, silk, viscose and rayon.

In all these photos, Colette’s wearing the Rae Top with her Chiara Pants but really and truly, it pairs perfectly with all our pants patterns.
The Rae Top comes in (Australian) sizes 6-18 and is now available in both hardcopy and PDF copy shop/print-at-home versions. All sizes are included in the pattern.

I have the Rae dress pattern and am about to use it. Could I adapt the dress pattern to make the blouse ?
Kind regards
Isobel greenfield
Hi Isobel. You sure can. We would suggest making a toile in case you need to make any adjustments.
How would long sleeves look on the Rae top please?
Hi Lesley. We haven’t made it with long sleeves yet but am sure it would work. Try a toile and see how you go.
I have lots of fabric looking for a pattern. The Rae Top is it. I just made a purchase.
Hey, just wondering if the Rae top would be suitable for a knit fabric? Thinking merino jersey for some warmth!
We have designed this for wovens. You could try it out in 100% wool knit. The facing may need to be sewn vary carefully.
I have bought the pattern and have made view C (as a dress). Before I print out all of view A, can you tell me if the bodice is different than view B & C? Thanks. BTW, its a great pattern.
Hi Vicki
if you are referring to the Rae Top, View A is the sleeveless version and is different in the armhole to the sleeved front and back pieces for View B and C.
Hi could you tell me if the sleeves are gathered at the head or are the gathers for easing in the sleeves and the head should be flat ? I have the two versions with sleeves cut out but I can’t see from the instructions how to deal with the gathers ? Any help appreciated Thankyou
Hi
This looks like a great pattern. Wondering if it would work with double gauze fabric?
Thank you
It would be beautiful in a double gauze Margaret!
I made the Rae top version C. Im not sure if I added the sleeves correctly. Are both parts of the sleeves supposed to be gathered? I had troble getting the sleeves to match up. I had to gather the shoulder part and the sleeve. Could I get more instructions for the sleeves please? Loving the neckline and sleeve options!!! Thank you.
Hi Betty, Thank you for your query.
As indicated on the Rae Top pattern sketch drawings and on the sleeve pattern pieces, there are no indications or markings that the sleeve head is gathered – https://www.tessuti-shop.com/collections/patterns-tops-shirts/products/rae-top-pattern-sizes-6-18. As well, the instruction booklet does not instruct to gather the sleeve head, only to ease the sleeve head, which is standard to give the subtle roundness to the top of the sleeve.
You only need to ease the sleeve head sightly and sit it in with no gathers. There is very little ease, only enough to give the sleeve head the usual ease.
Please unpick your sleeve and check your cut fabric sleeve against the sleeve paper pattern to see if your fabric has been stretched. If as per the sleeve pattern, we suggest repinning correctly, remembering to match underarm seams, sleeve head and armhole notches and ease in between these notches between the armhole notches. Make sure no tucks/gathers are on the sleeve head when joining to the armhole.
