The wrap top – New Look 6560

I’ve made a few skirts over the last twelve months and was looking for a simple wrap top alternative to the tucked-in options that I always seem to wear with them. That journey led me to Mimi G in THIS, which led me to New Look 6560 and View C. My (thankfully brief) search was over.

What an ace style this is. I’m especially a fan of those front shoulder yokes and in this Linford Black linen, the top feels like such a classic piece.

It pairs seriously well with every bottom – skinny jeans, wide pants, skirts and shorts. I’ve already worn it with my Madden Skirt (pictured here) Chiara Pants, Robbie Pants, McCalls 7166, my Persephone Pants and let me tell you, there are no favourites because it works with ALL of them.

The pattern lost just one love point at the part in the instructions where the sleeve band is concerned, instructing you to attach the sleeve band (on the flat) after you sew the shoulder seams but before sewing up the side seams. So if I make this again I’ll definitely sew up both shoulder and side seams and then attach the closed band separately for a much cleaner underarm finish.

In this linen, this top feels like a strictly warm-weather sew but for the cooler month, I think it would be equally excellent in a wool crepe, layered over a turtleneck.
