The NEW Mattea Dress & Mattea Top Pattern

We’re gearing up for summer days & summer nights with our latest pattern. Introducing Mattea – a simple, comfortable style that offers options for both a dress (View A) and top (View B) in one pattern.

Mattea has been designed as an easy classic that might just become your next wardrobe staple. Both dress & top share a sleeveless, semi-fitted bodice and a faced boat neckline. The dropped shoulders extend into cap sleeves and are finished with a clean, exposed binding.

The drop-waisted dress (View A) has stitched-down inseam pockets and a gathered skirt from mid-thigh that finishes at calf length. We call it the perfect one-and-done option for those hot days when you need maximum ventilation and minimal fabric touching the body.

As a more casual look, the Mattea Dress works beautifully in both cotton and linen. Our green samples here are all made up in Linford Grass Washed Linen. Colette also made herself a version (below) in Bedford White for summer fresh-in-a-dress perfection.

For an effortless staple, the Mattea Top is an excellent basic and makes a great addition to any capsule wardrobe. It pairs perfectly with pants, skirts and shorts and can be worn on its own or layered under a jacket or cardigan. Wear the top loose to highlight the side split detail…

…or tuck it into pants or jeans as shown below. Lisa used a self-striped fabric from the stash but for something similar try this Black on Black Stripe Viscose (available in Melbourne only).

For a more economical meterage, Mattea includes a centre back seam with a topstitch detail. If you prefer, this can be eliminated by cutting on the fold.

If the Mattea Dress looks familiar and you follow us on Instagram, you might remember that Colette made and wore it to last year’s Christmas party. And in a statement fabric, what a fabulous party dress it makes! Hers was sewn in this beautiful (sold out) Liberty silk satin, Betsy Shadow. In lighter fabrics such as silk or viscose, we recommend doing regular in-seam hidden side pockets (cutting 2 pairs) rather than the stitched-down option provided in the pattern.

Suitable fabrics for the Mattea Top & Dress pattern include linen, cotton tana lawn, soft & drapy viscose as well as silk satin and crepe de chine.

The pattern comes in six (Australian) size ranges – 0 (Size 6), 1 (Sizes 8-10), 2 (Sizes 10-12), 3 (Sizes 12-14), 4 (Sizes 16-18), 5 (Sizes 20-22)– and is now available in both hardcopy and PDF copy shop/print-at-home versions. UK/EU customers can purchase the Mattea Dress & Top pattern from our Tessuti Pattern UK website.

We can’t wait to see your versions and if you’re sharing them with us on Instagram, don’t forget to use the #TessutiPatterns #MatteaDress #MatteaTop hashtags.
